The Engineer will be responsible for technical development and deployment of Azure infrastructure for a multi-cloud platform supporting research, academics, and administration. This requires an understanding of all layers of the application and infrastructure stack, networking, security, OS and storage administration, database administration and application-level services. This position also assists with development and implementation, service definition, strategy, design, transition, and operation of all IT services related to cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities in this area include:
          • Assist with the engineering, facilitation, and implementation of public cloud infrastructure with the ability to provide public IaaS services to CU Boulder through a Cloud Foundation Service.
          • Develop, integrate, test and deploy the technical components of the cloud foundation service including Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Integration and Tests, Deployment Tooling and Application components.
          • Assist with engineering, facilitation and implementation of the hybrid-cloud model as defined by the emerging OIT Cloud Strategy.
          • Participation in the agile team supporting public cloud technologies.
          • Participate in and facilitate technical planning activities and provide analysis on how to implement plans and the impact of plans on budget and staffing and existing infrastructure.
          • Resolve incidents in a timely manner while continually aiming to identify and eliminate the root cause of incidents and major incidents.Evaluate Potential Technologies:
            • This position will investigate new technologies that support tactical and strategic objectives. This position will also build, test, and evaluate new technologies to recommend their applicability to key organizational and program objectives.
            • Changes to infrastructure, advances in technology, and changes in regulatory expectations may identify performance constraints or opportunities to particular system infrastructure objectives. This position will evaluate potential products or techniques to provide insight into new program projects and services before they are vital that will help the organization remain relevant and to evaluate opportunities in a timely manner.Contribute to open and community source projects:
              • This position is expected to make use of open and community source projects in support of the cloud foundation service and will be expected to interact positively with these projects and supply back bug reports/fixes and enhancements as needed by CU Boulder.Professional Development:
                • This position will maintain professional expertise in the field by reviewing trade publications lists, studying the latest vendor trends, reviewing pertinent mailing lists and attending seminars, training sessions, and conferences. This position will identify and elect relevant training opportunities that would be most beneficial to the organization.What You Should Know

                      • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
                      • 2 years experience with cloud services and technologies, Azure preferred.
                      • 2 years of experience in scripting and automation or application development.
                      • 5 years of experience with UNIX, Linux, Windows, or database administration in an enterprise or research environment.What You Will Need
                        • Ability to work independently and be proactive to ensure proper availability of systems/services.
                        • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and fix technical issues.
                        • Strong partnership skills and ability to work with colleagues to tackle sophisticated problems.
                        • Strong customer service and relationship skills.What We Would Like You To Have
                          • Azure experience and certifications (e.g. Azure Administrator, Azure Developer, AZ-500).
                          • Other cloud system operations experience (e.g. AWS, GCP).
                          • Cloud Management Platform (CMP), Cloud Workload Protection Platform (CWPP) or Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) experience.
                          • Experience with IT security, networking, system design, and data privacy standard processes.
                          • Understanding of networking, DNS, and DHCP.
                          • Understanding of firewall and load balancing technologies.
