THE POSITION Boulder Country Day's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an inspirational and visionary leader who oversees financial strategy and resource management operations of the School. The CFO plays an important role in the success of the School and is a key participant in the development of the School's strategic plan, is the School's primary analyst for financial decisions, and is the chief steward of the School's financial resources. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - To illustrate the scope and significance of the position, broad areas of responsibility are listed below: - LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT Provides School-wide strategic leadership, analysis, and management of the School's finances. Manages and actively participates in all Business Office Operations including budgeting and accounting, financial modeling and analysis, payroll/benefits, human resources, risk management, financial assistance, treasury and investment functions. In consultation with the Head of School, the leadership team and the Board of Trustees creates, administers, monitors, and adapts the financial plan, operating and capital budgets and other financial matters as needed. Serves as a member of the administrative leadership team, non-voting member of the Board of Trustees, member of the Finance and Facilities committees, and other related task forces as needed. Supports the chairs of these committees and prepares and presents management and board reports. Represents the School at various regional, state, and national associations relative to the role of being the CFO. ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, TREASURY Develops annual budgets in conjunction with the Head of School and the School's leadership team, for presentation to the Board Treasurer, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees. Serves as the financial and administrative advisor to the Head of School and provides appropriate financial information to the Board of Trustees . Coordinates, manages and actively participates in the year-end audit process. Works with the auditors to ensure compliance with applicable accounting procedures and standards. Establishes policies, procedures, standards and strategies for areas of responsibility and provides adequate internal control capabilities and strengths to safeguard the School's assets. Manages the administration of the School's bank and investment accounts. Serves as the primary liaison for the School's banking relationships and asset managers. Manages the timely and accurate filing of all tax and fiduciary filings with the IRS and State agencies as well as stay in accordance with GAAP for financial reporting purposes. Evaluates and improves financial systems, operations and controls by adopting best practices and effectively utilizing technology. Supports the Development Office regarding the Annual Fund, Capital Campaigns, special events and all other donations. -Plays a key role in the School's Dining Commons construction project. Works closely with the Project Managers and Architects, provides assistance with obtaining required documentation and internally manages the billings, payments and cost tracking for the project. Will serve as liaison to food service operations once they commence. -Supports the re-enrollment process for students in conjunction with the Admission Office. Manages the Financial Assistance process including the review of applications, determining the awards, and distributing award letters. Collaborates with the Admissions Director throughout the process. - RISK MANAGEMENT Ensures the School maintains the appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and cover the liability of the School by working with the brokers on the insurance portfolio, including workers compensation. Understands and responds to changes in School law and regulations. Coordinates required trainings for all employees per the employee handbook. -Ensures that background checks are up to date for all required constituents. Assists with the Crisis Management and Emergency Response Plan. HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATION Ensures the School's employment policies are fair and consistent for all employee groups, in compliance with Federal, State and Local laws and responsible for updating the Employee Handbooks. Plan Benefit Administrator for all employee benefit programs. Responsible for the annual benefit renewals and updates. Assists with the development and management of an employee wellness program. Manages the data collection for salary benchmarking and employment offers. Oversees and actively participates in the hiring, onboarding, and separation of employees. Maintains a relationship with legal counsel for personnel matters. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Business Manager Business Office Assistant EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's Degree in Business Administration or CPA preferred 7 years of experience creating and executing financial planning and management strategies, non-profit and School environment experience desired Strong written and oral communication skills Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively and proactively with all members of the community, the Head of School, and the Board of Trustees. Successfully pass background checks required by the School. COMPENSATION: Salary range $130,000-$185,000-dependent on qualifications and experience. This is a fully benefited position including medical, dental and vision insurance, 403b match, long-term and short-term disability, life insurance, and vacation/sick leave.
