    The Snowmaking Manager operates and oversees the Winter Park Resort snowmaking system and related equipment, including snow grooming equipment with attachments. This person is in charge of the snowmaking system and efficiently leads its staff to maximize production while balancing sustainability and resources. He/she knows the capability of machinery and understands maintenance functions and gauges. Follows consistently WPRA policies and procedures. During the snowmaking season, this position will receive direction from the Senior Manager of Slope Maintenance, the Director of Mountain Maintenance, the Vice President of Mountain Operations, and any others who may be so authorized. During the remainder of the year, this position is self-directed with the knowledge and consent of the Senior Manager of Slope Maintenance.

    • Be accountable for the quality and productivity of the snowmaking system at WPR.
    • Lead by example in punctuality, attendance, quality of work, and team culture.
    • Lead hiring process for snowmaking staff
    • Oversee evaluation process of supervisors each season
    • Create, track, and manage the annual snowmaking budget
    • Hold weekly meetings with key personnel to communicate short-term and medium-term plans.
    • Assist Supervisors in scheduling and staffing
    • Receive instructions and implement a plan that aligns with Slope Senior Manager's instructions.
    • Perform grooming functions required or partner with Grooming supervisor to achieve objectives
    • Perform required work safely and efficiently.
    • Secure work site between shifts in a reasonably safe manner, (i.e. holes marked, equipment keys removed).
    • Inform Supervisor of snowmaking status and scheduled jobs not completed.
    • Inform and coordinate with mechanics of necessary repairs and/or services needed.
    • Oversee and assist supervisors in tracking accurate up-to-date logs on equipment used.
    • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests, mechanics, and other employees.
    • Report and correct, if possible, unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere in the area.
    • Oversee housekeeping of assigned work/shop/equipment area.
    • Produce weekly reports to the Director of Planning to submit to Denver Water and related agencies.
    • Transport proper equipment with attachments to the job site
    • Recommend to Senior Manager ideas that save time and eliminate inefficiencies.
    • Track and communicate input on Demo machines and other equipment.
    • Oversee all periodic service and maintenance of equipment.
    • Oversee and lead decisions on moving snowmaking guns and adjusting snow conditions.
    • Solid understanding of hydrant locations and pump house functions.
    • Create training protocols and methods for the snowmaking department
    • Oversee training of all levels of snowmaking staff
    • Practices safe teaching methods for snowmobile, snow gun, and hydrant and pump house functions.
    • Oversees the entire operation of the snowmaking system.
    • Maintain EAM work order system and related snowmaking assets.
    • Provides clear, strong direction to all direct reports
    • Must be able to maintain a sustainable health standard in fast-changing altitudes and workloads.

      • High School diploma or GED Experience:
        • 5 or more years in apprentice/journeyman program or equivalent in the operation and maintenance of equipment involved in snowmaking and slope maintenance.
        • Experience as snowmaker/skiing trail crew desirable.
        • Flexibility with all snowmaking shifts.
        • Possess strong knowledge of Winter Park trails and ski runs for optimal grooming desired.
        • Experience with sophisticated snowmaking systems and processes.
        • CDL license desired.
        • 4 or more years in all heavy equipment machines.
        • Knowledge of transporting various types of equipment, and freight. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
          • Possess a valid, non-restricted motor vehicle license.
          • Strong skills in Microsoft Office software
          • Able to work irregular hours and maintain a high level of caution and common sense while performing duties
          • Have reliable transportation to work
          • skiing/snowboarding ability
          • First aid desirable. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING

            This position will require me to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

            Mountain Environment:
            • The primary physical environment in which these position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
            • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 75 pounds throughout the day is common.
            • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
            • Exposure to Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes are produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
            • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
            • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
            • Must be able to maintain a sustainable health standard in fast-changing altitudes and workloads. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily- reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

              The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resorts' hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel.
