We highly encourage individuals from underrepresented groups to apply!Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is seeking a Manager to support our Carbon Dioxide Removal initiative, focusing on the creation of new partnerships, programs, and service offerings that support the responsible and effective deployment of CDR on-the-ground.

Program Overview:The Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Initiative at RMI is focused on supporting the responsible and effective testing, development, and deployment of CDR techniques, through thought and action. Our thought includes:* Deep and rigorous reviews of scientific and technological advancements in CDR.* Techno-economic analysis.* Cross-sector roadmaps for the responsible scale-up of the CDR field.* The design of new concepts and interventions needed to advance the CDR field. We work with leading researchers in academia and elsewhere to deliver this work.Our action includes programs for:* Mobilizing people and funding for breakthrough R&D opportunities in CDR.* The development of systems and standards for CDR measurement, accounting, and certification.* Supporting CDR project implementation on-the-ground. We work with partners across sectors to deliver these programs.Position Overview:Managers at RMI are project leaders who manage team members and our relationships with partners, to craft and deliver bold yet practical solutions. You will work closely with and under the direction of RMI's Principals and Managing Directors to design and execute projects. Managers at RMI:* Have responsibility for managing projects and/or significant portions of initiatives. * Are sometimes individual contributors but are most often responsible for managing and guiding more junior staff, particularly Associates and sometimes Sr. Associates.* Work with Principals and Managing Directors to provide mentorship, professional development, and project reviews of more junior staff.* Contribute to strategy-level conversations about initiatives and RMI.* Develop expertise in one area and are conversant in one or more additional areas.* Represent RMI externally at mid-level technical events and in small to mid-sized groups.* Are beginning to participate in business development and sometimes have a significant role in that area. Core Responsibilities:Managing projects to yield breakthrough results* Manage RMI engagement in demonstration and deployment projects within the CDR industry.* With senior guidance, shape project strategies from inception to conclusion: determine change models, research methods, timelines, resource plans, communications plans, and stakeholder engagement.* Determine how results will be measured and be accountable for project results, rigorously challenging and validating findings from RMI teams and partners.* Act as the lead relationship manager with project partners and stakeholders, who will likely span industry, government, regulators, and civil society.* Coach and motivate project team members and resolve any issues throughout project life cycles, including writing project-level reviews for junior staff.* Oversee teams that number between 2 to 25 contributors (internal and external).* Regularly contribute to external interviews, videos, and publications to share project insights.* Work hand-in-hand with our development team to develop funding strategies.Providing thought leadership* Develop strategies for scaling CDR demonstration and deployment responsibly and effectively, domestically and internationally.* Lead and contribute to research efforts and publications.* Represent RMI as an industry expert at key conferences and other public speaking events.Required Qualifications:* Bachelor's degree in an applicable field such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, other forms of engineering, or physical sciences + 6 years of relevant work experience OR an M.S. or PhD degree in a related field + 4 years of relevant work experience.* Experience as a people manager (i.e., managing direct reports). * Demonstrated experience managing projects to deliver on time, on scope, and on budget.* Strong skills in problem-solving, stakeholder management, research, and writing.* Commitment to and passion for the development and realization of frontier climate solutions. Preferred Qualifications* Experience in the oil, gas, geothermal, or mining industry, or in regulatory, consulting, project management, or roles with exposure to those industries, preferred. * Knowledge of oil, gas, geothermal, or mining processes. * Experience designing, developing, or implementing R&D projects for new technologies. * Experience designing and developing commercial-scale deployments for new technologies.* Experience conducting commercial negotiations.* Knowledge of CDR techniques and recent advancements in them.Location We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process. If you are based outside of the U.S., this requirement does not apply.CompensationRMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Managers based in the U.S. join at the minimum to mid salary range of $103,000-$125,000.
