Job Description:
Half Time, Nights. 24 hours/week. Pay Range is between $42.84 -
$60.27/hr, depending on years of relevant and like experience.
+$2.50/hr for evening and weekend shifts. Boulder Community Health

positively contribute to the community. POSITION SUMMARY The
Clinical Advisor role will provide education and support to newly
developing registered nurses through the transition from
orientation until demonstrated competent clinical practice. The
Clinical Advisor will track and mentor new graduate registered
nurse (RN) after the new graduate completes three month orientation
the RN Educator through the first year of practice or until
competent nursing practice is displayed. The Clinical Advisor will
be a member of the Clinical Education team. JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education or Formal Training
- BSN and MSN preferred.
- Education/leadership training courses preferred
- One year of experience in program development or clinical
teaching preferred Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration,
etc.)
- Colorado RN license in good standing
- BLS within 12 months of hire Knowledge, Skill and Ability
- Demonstrates clinical expertise in nursing practice for
designated area (Medical Surgical/Critical Care).
- Develop, implement and/or facilitate educational activities to
continue building the foundation of clinical knowledge, judgement,
practice skills and confidence of the new critical care nurse.
- Provide in-the-moment knowledge and skills to support as a
nursing resource
- Observe new nurse practice and provide immediate coaching and
feedback for knowledge, judgment and skill enhancement
- Facilitate discussions leading to clinical forethought and
recognition of early patient signs requiring intervention each
shift with each new nurse about one or both patients
- Mentor staff using evidence-based practices
- Identify at-risk patient population and direct new nurse focus
to safety practices
- Ensure compliance of safety tools on each patient
- Collaborate with charge nurses to make assignments with a focus
on the needs of the new registered nurse
- Role model positive leadership, teamwork, caring practices,
advocacy and conflict resolution
- Encourage new nurse to identify self-care techniques
- Escalate all practice concerns to the unit manager
- Participate in peer review process
- Support tenured staff as directed by patient care, but the role
must remain focused on providing support to the newly developing
registered nurse
- Demonstrates problem solving skills.

- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication
skills
- Demonstrates effective listening skills to interact with staff
learning needs and crisis situations.
- Demonstrates organizational skill with orientation to
detail.
- Demonstrates strong computer skills with knowledge of Word,
Excel and Sharepoint. Experience
- One year of experience in program development or clinical
teaching preferred
- Five years of recent acute care nursing experience.
- Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
- Mentorship position focused on educating, supporting, and
supervising new graduate RNs
- Provides new graduate RN professional growth by providing
excellence in care, opportunities for growth, and communicating
problem behavior.
- Supports staff by intervening in conflict and/or problem
solving. Escalates to ARN if unable to de-escalate, resolve or
facilitate.
- Supports the unit managers budget goals, waste reduction, and
HPPD.
- Provides staff positive recognition, constructive feedback, and
coaching.
- Promotes speaking up and crucial conversations.
- Respect privacy and confidentiality of co-workers. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Care
- Engages in the evaluation of care delivery through a systematic
quality assessment/improvement process.
- Define and promote new graduate RN development programs.
- Assists in developing indicators for aspects of care.
- Takes actions to improve care and/or services.
- Demonstrate ability to assess and plan for the clinical and
education needs of the new graduate RN.
- May be required to perform point of care testing. May be a
point of care trainer.
- Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory
requirements, including Joint Commission Standards.
- Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may
include:
- the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves,
masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses);
- handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately;
and
- hand washing as appropriate. Performance Appraisal
- Evaluates own and others practice in context with relevant
professional practice standards, statutes and regulations.
- Helps determine successful accomplishment of
orientation/conditional period. Documents success and failures.
Works with management to determine action plan or termination when
indicated.
- Identifies areas for personal and professional
development.
- Develops and initiates an action plan to achieve professional
development goal; periodically monitors and evaluates
progress.
- Participates in peer review when appropriate. Education
- Acquires, maintains and builds on current knowledge in nursing
practice.
- Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates educational programs
for new graduate RNs..
- Demonstrates clinical role modeling to the clinical staff and
encourages their growth in clinical performance, decision-making
and conflict resolution.
- Interacts consistently with small and large groups to meet the
staff development needs and the goals of the assigned patient care
area.
- Identifies learning needs based on performance behaviors that
include critical thinking, interpersonal and technical skills.
- Seeks and provides experiences to meet established goals for
professional development.
- Utilizes, designs and coordinates the new graduate RN preceptor
program for designated patient care department Collegiality
- Contributes to the professional growth of peers, colleagues and
others.
- Demonstrates clinical role modeling to the nursing staff and
encourages their growth in clinical performance, decision making,
conflict-resolution, and correct implementation of standards.
- Shares knowledge and skills through in-service programs,
seminars, mentoring, publishing and participation/service in
professional organizations.
- Provides new graduate RNs with constructive feedback regarding
their practice participation, and one-on-one discussions.

advocate.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is

and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or
lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or
transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a
wheelchair to a bed).
- Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine
