Come be part of an independent, community-focused health system; feel good knowing that your work will make a difference in people's lives and positively contribute to the community.POSITION SUMMARYAssists the registered nurse in the intra-operative care of the surgical patient by the performance of routine and delegated duties according to the policies and procedures of Boulder Community Hospital.JOB QUALIFICATIONSEducation or Formal TrainingGraduate of a School of Surgical Technology or an equivalent of education and /or experience may be considered. ORGraduate of a School of Nursing with one-year experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting ORFormer training in a military settingSpecial Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)Colorado Registration is requiredCertification preferredBLS certification requiredOne to two years experience in an acute care setting preferredKnowledge, Skill and AbilityDemonstrated physical and mental ability to apply nursing theories, procedures and standards to clinical practiceExperience1-2 years experience is requiredCVOR Experience requiredESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMeet all requirements of Surgical Tech.Proficiently scrub all complex procedures listed in Surgical Technologist job description as well.Instrumented SpineCranisTotal hip (excluding techs only working weekday shifts)Total Knee (excluding techs only working night and weekend shifts)Advanced vascular (required for techs working weekend and night shifts)Multisystem trauma (required for techs working weekend and night shifts)Take an active role, under the direction of the Clinical Service Lead while the Service Coordinator is on vacation/off work, ensuring instruments and equipment are available to their specialty service for use.Demonstrate knowledge in the care and handling of instruments, sutures, and other operating room equipment to decrease damage and promote longer equipment life.Demonstrate knowledge of principles of surgical asepsis.Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by preparing and passing of instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed during the operative procedure.Assists the RN in the delivery of care to the intra-operative procedure.Demonstrates proper handling of specimens.Consults with and/or advises appropriate personnel of instrument or equipment needs requiring follow-up or attention.Utilizes physician preference cards and inventory lists to accurately organize equipment and supplies for operative surgical procedures.About Boulder Community Health and Boulder, ColoradoUncompromising medical excellence delivered with respect and compassion.
