Exercise Specialist / Personal Trainer / Medical AssistantDepartment: ClinicalReports To: Clinical ManagerSupervises: N/ASign-on Bonus: $1,000Overtime Status: o Exempt x Non-exemptJob Summary: The Athletic Trainer assists providers with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. Salary Ranges: Athletic Trainer $19-29 per hourMedical Assistant $18-25 per hour Primary Job Responsibilities: 1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting provider(s) with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information. With appropriate certification, may arrange patients for radiological examinations, produces x-rays to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. 2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/imaging/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating EMR to ensure complete and accurate patient record.3. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned, including: setting up instruments and equipment per protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer per scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.4. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, including: respecting/promoting patient and staff rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor, ensuring HIPAA compliance.5. Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities as applicable per state law, which may include: medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs or mensuration; DME fitting and or casting; physical examination preparations; clinical pharmacology; drug administration through various routes including injections; prescription verifications with physician's orders; minor surgery assists including surgical tray set-up pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings and suture removal; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care; laboratory procedures including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods; capillary punctures and venipunctures; specimen; electrocardiography including mounting, emergency triage, and first aid. Athletic Trainers must adhere to the Athletic Trainers scope of practice in the laboratory.6. Other duties as assigned.Education: Bachelor's degree; health or exercise-related field preferred. Current training certification through the NSCA or ACSM (other nationally accredited certifications will be considered with supplemental experience) is preferred.Experience: Preferred one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience. Other Requirements: Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart AssociationPerformance Requirements:Knowledge:Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice.Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.Skills:Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.Skill in diplomacy and tact in interpersonal interactions.Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.Abilities:Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.Equipment Operated: Standard medical exam/office equipment including computerized health information management system for medical records. X-ray technicians will also operate imaging equipment.Work Environment: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.Physical Requirements: Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies. Occasional stress from dealing with many staff and patients.
