OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Provide direct service to victims of crime, primarily those impacted by the mass shooting at the Table Mesa King Soopers. This is an immediate and invaluable opportunity to offer information, assistance, and ongoing support, in an effort to reduce physical and emotional suffering of victims. This is a fixed-term grant funded position that is expected to last 18 to 24 months.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides assistance and guidance to victims in understanding and coping with their situations and contacting parties who may be of assistance to victims, including, but not limited to, friends, family, healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers or legal counsel.
  • Provide a wide variety of case management services for victims of crime and personal tragedy. Reads and interprets police reports, assessing the needs of victims and their families and making recommendations.
  • Act as liaison between victims and witnesses, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, social service agencies, and offices of the courts.
  • Assist victims and their families with victim compensation and financial assistance applications, appeals, restitution or other civil remedies.
  • Maintain statistical data for grant reporting and prepare case reports.
  • On call and overtime work may be required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Candidate Competencies

  • Associates Degree in Human Services related field, and two years experience in victim advocacy. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention
  • Understanding of victimization issues and the impact of specific crimes on victims
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be compassionate and empathic, with clear relational boundaries

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree in a related field

Knowledge of:

  • Colorado Crime Victims Rights Act
  • Colorado Criminal Justice System
  • Community services available to crime victims

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Colorado drivers license and a good driving record.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check, a truth verification interview and a drug screen.
