POSITION SUMMARYThe Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Coordinator is vital to the quality and continuum of care offered
in Behavioral Health Services of Boulder Community Health (BCH). As
a BCH Behavioral Health Services clinical employee, the PHP
Coordinator develops, coordinates, and maintains an evidence-based
PHP program and provides staff support, supervision, and education.
The PHP Coordinator is responsible for assisting in liaison with
all Boulder Community Hospital programs, Boulder Mental Health
Center, law enforcement, and community providers of mental health
services and self-help organizations. The PHP Coordinator functions
as the direct supervisor of all PHP staff. The position
necessitates:1. Initiative in identifying areas of improving
patient care, triaging, improving systems in cost 2.
effectiveness.3. Responsibility for ongoing quality and efficiency
in day-to-day operations (i.e.,4. documentation, standards and
guidelines, procedures, etc.5. Ability to make independent
decisions with accountability to BHS Director.6. Creativity and
flexibility with intake management.7. Leadership in assessing
patient and department needs, acuity, and appropriate staffing.8.
Commitment to the vision statements and the budgetary integrity of
Boulder Community9. Hospital and Behavioral Health services.10.
Positive, proactive and problem-solving attitude toward staff,
which is consistently role-modeled to peers.JOB
QUALIFICATIONSEducation or Formal Training1. Minimum of a master's
degree or RN, plus five years' experience in a mental health
facility or recovery hospital/center setting preferred.2.
Familiarity with 12-step programs of recovery; adolescent and adult
psychiatry; and solution-focused/time-effective therapy
models.Special Qualifications (licensure, registration,
etc.)Licensure appropriate to field preferred (i.e., L.P.C.,
L.C.S.W., R.N.)Knowledge, Skill and Ability1. Ability to
demonstrate working in a solution-focused/time-effective therapy
model.2. Acts as a resource to all BHS staff regarding managed care
contracts and insurance.3. Knowledge of developmental issues
related to the life span.4. Clinical assessment skills; dealing
with psychiatric and recovery issues resulting in appropriate
placement in level of care.5. Awareness of physical health concerns
in mental health patients.6. Excellent organizational, supervisory,
and problem-solving skills.7. Working knowledge of and experience
with treatment or and recovery and/or mental health issues.8.
Commitment to ongoing relevant education.9. Awareness of legal
statutes related to mental health and recovery issues.Experience1.
Supervisory experience in a related health-care setting.2. Prefer
Clinical experience in a related setting (3-5 years).3. Hiring,
firing and corrective-action experience preferred.4. Budgetary
assistance experience.WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES1.
Ability to participate in meetings with customers and/or staff up
to three (3) hours at a time under fluorescent lighting over an
average eight-hour workday.2. Ability to write, dictate, or
otherwise communicate.3. Must be able to move within program area
between offices, cafeteria, laboratory, and other support
services.4. Open working area with frequent liaison over the
telephone with other BCH employees and mental health
professionals.5. Frequent personal interchange with BHS and
patients.6. Accomplishes tasks while working under pressure of
consistent deadlines.INTERRELATIONSHIPSBHS Director, IP Manager, OP
Manager, Medical Directors, staff, patients, family members,
community groups, in-house and out-of-house professionals, and
insurance providers/managed care representatives.SUPERVISORY
DUTIES1. Clinically and administratively supervises all PHP
staff.2. Meet with staff for supervision on a regular basis.3.
Completion of Service Quality Reviews.4. Reviews and implements
personnel policies with staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES1.
Maintains working knowledge of mental health laws, protocols,
managed care contracts, insurance; educates PHP staff regarding the
same.2. Responsible for reviewing and supervising PHP staff as they
carry out the above duties.3. Utilizes time effectively, mentor and
supports others in effective time management.4. Performs
effectively in stressful and/or emergency situations and
demonstrates knowledge and use of emergency procedures and
equipment.5. Communicates effectively with BHS Director, BHS
managers, and staff to ensure continuity of care.6. Functions as
BHS liaison, providing consultation/problem-solving between BHS
programs, medical staff, community professionals and outside
