This position communicates regularly with campus partners regarding policy violations, criminal or suspicious activity, and the Community Safety Program. This position focuses on supervising Community Safety Officials (CSO) who patrol buildings and campus, access to campus buildings, detection of policy violations, security patrols, and report writing. The CUPD is a full-service police agency with 46 sworn and 36 non-sworn employees providing community-based public safety services to a diverse community of 36,000 affiliates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Every year the department responds to approximately 20,000 calls for service and ensures the safety and security for all of their PAC-12 Conference athletic events with attendance at football games exceeding 50,000 fans. Patrolling the campus by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and vehicle, the CU Boulder Police work diligently with the University community and surrounding agencies to ensure a timely and coordinated law enforcement response. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Leadership and Supervision + Directly manage CSO staff and CSO student staff in recruitment, hiring, training and programmatic oversight. + Manage coordination and communication of staffing requests, design of job functions for the positions staffed, and follow up with constituents regarding services and feedback. + Supervise the routine administration of lock, unlock and security patrol functions by CSOs on duty. This includes maintaining proper staffing levels, scheduling, payroll, equipment (radios, keys, etc.) coordination, office upkeep, assistance in evaluation and verification of guard performance through review of shift recaps, site inspections, monitoring radio traffic, etc. and providing coaching sessions. CSO Training + Maintain and assist in developing a coherent, efficient, and sustainable training program for new staff who are hired into the program. + Coordinate and provide training as designated by the Public Safety Program Manager. What You Should Know + This position requires a criminal and motor vehicle records background check, personal history questionnaire, an Excluded Parties List System check, reference check, polygraph, integrity interview, and a psychological evaluation. + Ability to work varying shifts, work holidays, weekends, special events, and other required dates/times that are common to a Police Department operating 24/7/365. + This position may be required to work in other areas or divisions as needed due to operational needs. What We Require + Current Colorado residency and a valid Colorado Driver's License. + One year of experience in security or law enforcement or applicable field. What You Will Need + Demonstrate maturity and a collaborative, team-based approach while working with a diverse and highly active academic community. + Excellent communication skills during complex situations and coordinate with emergency responders using police radios. + Ability to walk long distances per shift to adequately patrol Academic Facilities, including climbing/descending staircases in high rise buildings to specifically patrol those stairwell areas. + Ability to stand for extended periods of 4 or more hours of time while maintaining a visible presence and also remain standing throughout the assignment of perimeter duties on emergency or special event situations such as Stadium/Arena concerts, races, etc. + Ability to work Special Events and/or Emergency Incidents in support of the Police Department sometimes with little or no advanced notice. + Ability to efficiently and optimally work alone in all weather and facility conditions. + Ability to repeatedly lift metal police barricade sections 8-12-foot-long, approximately 45 inches in height, weighing approximately 50lbs-57lbs per section, while setting up or tearing down equipment during emergency or planned special event deployments. Ability to push and pull up to 30 pounds of weight with no restrictions. + Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, SharePoint, Office 365, or other similar products.
