Water Power Electrical Engineer
CO - Boulder
Hours Per Week
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the
foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the
nation's primary laboratory for research and development of
renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies with another
office near Boulder, National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) at
Flatirons Campus is the nation's premier wind energy, water power,
and grid integration research facility.
This R&D program has an opening for an engineer in the area
of grid integration and electrical machine design of water power
technologies and will be located at NWTC at Flatirons.
This is a research and testing position will provide technical
analysis, design, and testing support of power electronics,
generators, and electricity transmission systems for marine energy
power generation applications in wave, tidal, ocean current
resources. This will include utility scale, microgrid scale, and
non-grid applications (e.g. AUV recharge, aquaculture, nanogrid,
desalination, etc.). This will be used to inform work on economic
viability and device performance in a wide range of ocean
The ideal candidate must have experience modeling, designing and
testing power systems, and have proficient analysis skills. The
successful candidate will develop and execute models, analyze
results, and publish results in written reports and spoken
presentations. Prior experience with technologies such as energy
storage, marine energy, other renewable technologies, as well as
systems integration issues is an advantage.
