Overview of Role:

Would you like to change lives by providing the most amazing experience for people with disabilities this summer? If so this position is for you! Our EXPAND Program Instructor III will supervise our Adaptive Waterski Program supporting the program needs, staff, and participants. They will also be responsible to ensure all city policies are being adhered to, that safety protocol is being followed and will be the main contact between EXPAND and EXPAND Beyond. The EXPAND Program Instructor III will be supported by our program coordinators and supervisor throughout the summer to ensure a safe, fun and fulfilling experience for all!

Example responsibilities/ Highlights of job(list of projects and responsibilities):

* Teamwork and ability to lead other staff members: * Coordinating and scheduling volunteers and skiers * Discussing rules, regulations and accommodations for people with disabilities * Supervision, education and modeling for staff on waterski equipment * Creating a positive relationship and good communication with the participants, volunteers and staff.

* Monitoring program to ensure safety * Ensuring covid and safety protocol is followed * Assessing and making decisions in emergency situations * Administering first aid and contacting medical assistance when necessary * Ensuring waterski equipment is in good order and operating correctly

* Great communication skills * Greeting participants, caregivers and volunteers as they arrive to program * Checking in each program day with the staff at the Boulder Reservoir and EXPAND Beyond. Ability to create a positive relationship with the staff and participants and addressing any concerns in a solution-focused and positive manner. * Ability to teach staff/volunteers/participants how to properly use and fit adaptive waterski equipment.

* Managing the Day-to-Day operations of Adaptive Waterski: * Responsible for the daily operations of program with the support of the EXPAND program coordinator and/or supervisor. * Ensuring program quality. Addressing concerns with staff/volunteers/participants and supporting them through improvement as needed. * Following all City of Boulder Policies and Procedures and Covid SOP's. * Assisting in equipment management and ensuring proper use of equipment * Delegating roles and responsibilities to staff/volunteers to ensure a well run program.

Required candidate (skills/competencies):

* Previous experience working an adaptive waterski program. * Knowledge of adaptive waterski equipment, how it works and how to correctly fit people into the equipment. * Experience working with and creating accommodations for people with disabilities. * Ability to evaluate conditions in various locations and make judgments related to safety. * Basic knowledge of the American's with Disability Act * Ability and willingness to work as part of a team. * Effective leadership skills. * Ability to supervise staff, volunteers and participants. * Ability to organize information and follow established procedures. * Ability to complete and maintain accurate records and documentation. * Ability to create positive customer service relationships with participants, volunteers, program partners and city staff. * Ability to evaluate customer problems and make decisions within guidelines. * Effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills. * Ability and willingness to monitor equipment and ensure it is stored correctly at the end of each day. * Attend all necessary trainings. * Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

Desired qualifications - In addition to the required minimum qualifications:

* Current American Red Cross (or equivalent) certification in lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR. * Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, CTRS * Previous experience supervising staff or volunteers * Previous experiencing leading an adaptive waterski program * Bi-lingual in English/Spanish

Supplemental Information

EXPAND works closely with our partner EXPAND to coordinate and run Adaptive Waterski. This position will be expected to work with both agencies and attend all required trainings.

Working Conditions - Required Physical and Mental Effort and Environmental Conditions:

* Must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina, and flexibility to lift, carry or move a variety of objects up to 50 lbs. * Must be able to work while crouching, kneeling, bending, stooping, or assisting children for long periods of time. * Must have sufficient hearing to be able to hear and discriminate differing sounds in a variety of situations. * Sufficient vision to be able to discriminate between colors, size, and type of objects and people, both close and distant. * The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
