Job Description:
Full Time, Days. 40 hours/week
Pay range is between $17.85/hr-$25.19/hr, depending on years of
relevant and like experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Insurance Verification Specialist (IVS) is responsible for
verifying insurance benefits for Commercial and Managed Care
carriers for patients requiring surgical services. The IVS will
obtain authorizations and pre-certifications for services from
Commercial and Managed Care carriers. The IVS is responsible for
entering insurance benefits, demographics and
pre-certification/authorization information into the patient
accounting system. The IVS is also responsible for the daily
maintenance of the surgery schedules and all aspects of the
scheduling process. This position requires problem-solving,
conflict resolution and high levels of customer service with
physician scheduling coordinators and operating room staff.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education or Formal Training
+ High School Graduate or equivalent preferred
+ Associate degree or active pursuit of advanced degree
preferred.
+ Training in Medical Terminology preferred
Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)
+ None
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
+ Demonstrated ability to function in a high stress environment
with constant multiple stimuli.
+ Good computer skills.
+ Competent with surgical/medical terminology preferred.
Experience
+ 3+ years health care insurance related experience preferred.
+ Background in medical terminology preferred.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
+ Computers, Microsoft Office, copy machines, FAX, telephones,
scanners, Meditech and other technology equipment/software
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
+ Long periods of sitting and repetitive motion.
+ Working in proximity to computer terminal.
+ Visual acuity necessary to operate computer 6-7 hours daily.
+ While performing the duties of this position, the employee is
occasionally required to stoop, crouch, twist, kneel, and
squat.
+ Tolerance to high noise levels, multiple interruptions, and an
ability to meet deadlines.
+ The employee must be able to support, push, pull, and/or lift to
10 pounds.
+ Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor
skills, and reaching. The following senses will be needed for
essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, and
touch.
+ Fast-paced, challenging, and stressful work environment.
+ Ability to proficiently read, write and communicate effectively
using English.
+ Additional languages preferred.
+ Ability to interact effectively with customers of varying
educational background and temperament.
+ Projects a mature, compassionate, concierge-style customer
service attitude and professional demeanor.
+ Has access to confidential patient health information. Must be
knowledgeable and compliant with HIPAA rules and regulations.
+ Must be knowledgeable of compliance issues involved with Managed
Care denials.
+ Will have telephone and/or electronic communications with
approximately 30 insurance carriers daily, addressing accounts per
day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Schedules surgical procedures by determining the length of time,
resources and facilities needed for each case.
+ Maintains electronic fax system, continuously reconciling and
forwarding information as needed to other departments.
+ Answers telephone, takes messages, and communicates messages to
appropriate person.
+ Maintains surgical waitlist for physicians requesting booked days
and/or times.
+ The IVS is responsible for verifying insurance benefits for
Commercial and Managed Care carriers for patients requiring
surgical services.
+ Verifies insurance benefits for primary, secondary, and tertiary
insurance plans.
+ Utilizes Managed Care and Insurance web sites for determining
eligibility and benefits.
+ Refers uninsured accounts to the Patient Financial Counselor.
