OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE:
Under general supervision of the Facility Operations Coordinator,
delivers exceptional customer service to patrons and provides care
to the children participating in the drop-in child care program.
Provides daily oversite of the drop-in child care program and
staff. Assists with child care operations and performs related
duties as required.
The hiring range for this position starts at $15.75 - $18.50 /hour
depending on qualifications and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides excellent customer service to the parents and children
using the child care program. This includes the following:
* Interacts with the Department of Parks and Recreation child care
customers by greeting patrons, answering phones, providing
information about services and programs, checking children in and
out of the room, and providing general care to children aged 6
months to 8 years old
* Communicates effectively with facility patrons in person and over
the phone to market and promote the child care program, which may
include giving tours and preparing flyers.
2. Responsible for safety measures and procedures, and equipment
maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to the
following:
* Provides input to supervisor and/or department for development of
safety measures.
* Ensures seasonal staff and children follow all safety measures,
this includes enforcing safety policy and procedures, taking proper
care of equipment and maintenance of equipment/materials.
* Anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent
accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials,
and room environment.
* Assists supervisor in coordinating with Facility Asset Management
(FAM) staff regarding the replacement, refurbishment and renovation
of the child care area and on-going maintenance and repair
schedules.
* Completes accident and incident reports and submits to the
supervisor regarding accidents/incidents reported by seasonal
staff.
3. Serves as a lead worker. This includes, but is not limited to
the following:
* Takes lead to oversee day-to-day activities of seasonal child
care staff
* Ensures that excellent customer service is provided to the
children and parents/caregivers served.
* Resolves customer concerns, incidents, and issues as they
occur
* Provides on-going child care education and best practices to
seasonal staff.
* Remains current in the knowledge of child care trends, training
and equipment and provides recommendations to the supervisor to
assist in ensuring program follows current guidelines and best
practices.
* Assists in child care staff training of safe teaching methods and
department policies and procedures
* Assists in establishing the child care program's policies,
procedures, and program hours.
4. Performs a variety of administrative functions such as filing,
making and maintaining signs, maintaining the Voice Mail menu
system, updating information boards and flyers, maintaining
brochure racks and providing support for various center
employees.
5. Other:
* Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the
city.
* Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible
for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all
required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations,
policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city
property.
* Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and
department policies; participating in professional trainings and
development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire
policies. Generally, duties and responsibilities are listed from
most to least critical or time consuming.

SUPERVISION: None
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three years of
experience working in a child care environment or any equivalent
combination of education and experience. Interest, desire, ability
and commitment to provide excellent customer service in person and
over the telephone. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
including the ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Demonstrated organizational skills including attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written skills. Ability to give instructions
and to monitor the work of employees. Physical ability to
participate in play activities. Upper body strength to lift
children and carry supplies and equipment. Ability to ensure all
practical safety measures are observed for children age six months
through five years. Able to be energetic and sensitive to the needs
of the children and parents we serve. Good math skills. Have and
maintain acceptable background information including CBI criminal
history credit history and motor vehicle record. Valid Colorado
driver's license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS - In addition to the required minimum
qualifications:
College degree or course work in early childhood education or a
related field. Experience working with children age six months
through five years in a public recreation facility. Excellent
customer service skills. Previous lead worker experience.
Experience with Microsoft Office. Bilingual in English and Spanish
(Conversational level in Spanish).
WORKING CONDITIONS - Required Physical and Mental Effort, and
Environmental Conditions: In addition to the information listed
above:
Physical and Mental Effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and
hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the
employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.
Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the
employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written
documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits
the employee to operate computer equipment and other office
equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes,
which permits the employee to work in a child care setting and
participate in play activities. Upper body strength to lift
children and carry supplies and equipment. Work may include
extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/ or
operating a keyboard or participating in play activities. Ability
to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and
changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable
environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions
and background noises.
Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the
following:Frequently uses standard office equipment including
personal computers, telephones, calculators and copy/fax
machines.
