Job Description:

The position of Trail Solutions Senior Planner works with Trail Solutions Directors and TS Planner I's by leading the development of trail feasibility studies and concept plans, design development, construction documents, and hold key roles in tasks related to community outreach and project implementation.Overall Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Directors of Trail Solutions
  • Report, estimate, and budget projects for Trail Solutions
  • Supervise staff within consulting/contracting program(s)
  • Coordinate with other staff during trail development
  • Respond to inquiries regarding consulting and construction services
  • Manage team workflow for on-time deliverables
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability with many personality types
  • Manage project milestones, timelines and budget
  • Manage and coordinate work projects with IMBA staff including project scope and priority
  • Manage and coordinate of the project lifecycle including communications with clients/stakeholders to monitor progress, update schedules, gather any missing or additional information or resources
  • Champion identification and elimination of project roadblocks that may arise throughout project life-cycle
  • Act as a catalyst to resolve project issues and escalate when necessary
  • Project mapping data acquisition, creation, and management including CAD and GIS based data and Adobe deliverables
  • Lead the creation of trail network and bike park concepts and design development
  • Manage the production of design development and construction documents
  • Lead and review map graphic creation and delivery
  • Meet the performance goals established by IMBA's leadership
  • Attend required company and departmental meetings

      • Working experience with ArcGIS Pro and creating Story Maps
      • Have strong skills in AutoCAD and development/management of CAD sheet sets.
      • Knows what sources to use for GIS and CAD data collection and effectively organizes information in a useful manner
      • Graphic Design: Understanding of graphic design principles with ability to implement in projects to display information effectively and pleasingly
      • Competent in use of Adobe Creative Cloud software, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
      • Production Based: Demonstrated ability to operate in a deliverable based environment meeting deadlines and quality expectations
      • Displays motivation to complete tasks
      • Understands influence of one's own work on others' tasks Theory Understanding:
        • Utilizes a thorough understanding of Trail System Planning theory and other related knowledge bases to produce plans for sustainable trail systems that meet needs and expectations of trail users and land managers.
        • Knowledge of and implementation of best practices for sustainable trails
        • Understands the jargon of trail development
        • Communicates viewpoints supported by theory
        • Seeks out continued education Field Proficiency:
          • Ability to operate in the field independently drawing on previous experience, and skill sets to accomplish goals efficiently.
          • Ability to conduct an Existing Conditions Assessment
          • Understanding of various landscapes, geologies, soils, and hydrology while recognizing implications on planning and design.
          • Acknowledges discrepancies between data and ground realities
          • Gather & organize accurate and useful data
          • Draw accurate and useful conclusions in the field and leads decision making by providing recommendations with solid reasoning
          • Knowledge of land management policies and procedures in the area
          • Responsible for one's own well-being when in the field, plan food and water needs accordingly.
          • Physical capability to transport necessary equipment through various terrain and climatic conditions
          • Knowledge of safety measures and backcountry protocol
            • Skilled in GIS (ArcGIS Pro), AutoCAD and Adobe InDesign-Illustrator-Photoshop
            • Experience and familiarity with creating and producing planning documents and construction details
            • Experience with GPS tools, data collection, and post processing
            • Proficient in MS Office Suite
            • Mountain Biking and Travel Experience
            • Potential to travel 50% of the time Preferred Background
              • Eight (8) to Ten (10) years of professional planning experience related to recreation based projects and site design
              • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field of Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similar. At a minimum a technical college certificate in GIS and CAD IMBA is the leading nonprofit organization for mountain biking advocacy and trails.
