Job Description:
Nurse Externship Program Per Diem, various shift and hours/week.
Pay Rate is a flat rate of $19.80. $2.50/hr for weekends, $8/hr for
nights. At Boulder Community Health, we strive to create and care

explore our new Nurse Externship Program, this is a temporary and
part-time employment opportunity for nursing students who meet
specific criteria. Interested students will gain valuable skills
and knowledge by applying basic fundamentals of nursing under the
guidance of an experienced nurse mentor. During your experience,
you will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary health care
team and work alongside nurses at Boulder Community Health. We
assist externs in building their self-confidence and building
skills related to critical thinking, time-management, clinical
competence, and communication.# Departments include Med/Surg,
Ortho/Neuro, Oncology/Urology, ICU, PCU, and more! Placements are
based on available openings in each department.# Applicant
Eligibility:# Currently enrolled in accredited nursing program#
Completed 1st year of a 2-year nursing program, or 3rd year of a
4-year baccalaureate nursing program.# Completed clinical rotations
in Medical/Surgical unit# Must be able to provide documentation of
class courses and competencies completed in 1st year of nursing
school for validation.# Knowledge, Skill and Ability Basic
knowledge of Infection prevention and universal precautions Basic
knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies Basic Computer
and technical equipment knowledge desirable. Able to take
directions from multiple staff and demonstrate the ability to set
priorities. Basic knowledge and competencies in the care of
peripheral IV, Foley Catheters, Lab draws, and wound care.
Experience Hospital or other health care experience preferred.
Completed Nursing Fundamentals and Adult Medical/Surgical Clinical
Skills/Abilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes a
patient safety culture and participates with other departments in
achieving core measures, evidence and best practice initiatives.
Identifies own learning needs and expands knowledge base through
clinical practice and self-directed learning. Supports and ensures
compliance with hospital, division, and departmental policies.
Familiar with organization, department and job specific environment
of care policies, including life safety, utilities management,
hazardous material communication, emergency preparedness Infection
Prevention and medical equipment failure. Implements interventions
based on the Plan of Care, priority of patient needs and desired
outcome, guidelines/standards of care, and agency policy and
procedures. Increased complexity of assignments are assigned based
on demonstrated competencies. Can perform selected procedures under
the direction and supervision of a RN/LPN. Evaluates practice in
relation to professional standards, statutes, regulations, hospital
and departmental policies, and standards of care. #
ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may
include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards:#
chemical, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation,
etc. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to,
variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand
and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and
twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and
sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull
and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or
lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or
transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a
wheelchair to a bed). Functional physical demands include; manual
